Bauerfield Airport Runway Statement

WEDNESDAY 03 AUGUST

Air Vanuatu is continuing to work with the airport authority and other airlines to ensure safe jet operations may continue at Bauerfield airport.

The airport authority completed minor repair works on Monday afternoon that were inspected by several carriers and Civil Aviation Authority Vanuatu.

As an extra safety measure, further remediation work is taking place with the cooperation of all airlines to ensure the runway is well maintained and meets international standards.

The remediation work began yesterday and is expected to take four days. Air Vanuatu is monitoring the progress and continues to work with the airport authority to ensure continued safe operations.

Air Vanuatu has engaged an independent airport assessor from Australia to inspect the completed works, arriving in Port Vila today (Wednesday).

Air Vanuatu staff will continue to inspect the runway prior to each arrival and departure and have implemented operational procedures to mitigate risks to ensure safety.

As the national carrier, it is our responsibility to provide a safe and reliable service to passengers. We are continuing to do so.
