Statement No. 3 from Air Vanuatu re incident at Bauerfield

Air Vanuatu management is continuing to work closely with authorities to investigate the runway excursion of one of their ATR-72 aircraft yesterday. The excursion resulted in no injuries however the aircraft was damaged and is out of service.

Air Vanuatu international flights are operating according to the schedule today. Passengers booked to fly to Nadi yesterday are being re-accommodated on another flight today with those requiring hotels (non Port Vila residents) provided with accommodation.

The 39 passengers on board were reviewed by medical personnel at the terminal and comforted by Air Vanuatu staff, including CEO Derek Nice.

Mr. Nice thanked Airports Vanuatu Ltd for their management of the situation yesterday.

“Along with the local authorities and services, Airports Vanuatu Ltd managed the situation very professionally. On behalf of the management and staff at Air Vanuatu, I would like to thank AVL and Vanuatu’s emergency services that attended yesterday.

“We are also very grateful to our fantastic crew of two pilots and two flight attendants whose actions ensured no injuries to passengers. We are offering our crew support and comfort after what would have been a very difficult situation to manage,” Mr. Nice said.
