Air Vanuatu regains IOSA registration

Air Vanuatu has again joined the ranks of the world’s best and safest airlines with exceptional results in the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA).
The airline withdrew from the IOSA re-registration process after a particularly difficult 2015, which saw the airline suffer through the economic impact of Cyclone Pam and a human resources shortage at the company, which lead to a restructuring of the airline.
“We had every intention of regaining our IOSA registration once the restructure was complete when we had the right people in the right positions to lead our team to IOSA success,” chief executive officer Joseph Laloyer said.
To become a registered IOSA carrier, airlines must satisfy all of the IATA standards encompassing airline operations from maintenance to cargo, ground handling, safety systems, training and flight operations.
The accreditation is no mean feat for the airline; fellow IOSA members include the world’s leading airlines Qantas, Cathay Pacific and British Airways.
Mr. Laloyer said the results of the 2016 audit are the best Air Vanuatu has ever achieved.
“Gaining IOSA accreditation is a lengthy and stringent process. Our general managers, managers and frontline staff are all involved in the audit.
“In 2007 Air Vanuatu participated in its first IOSA audit; we passed the registration with 98 findings – meaning areas we needed to improve on. This year, there were just five.”
Mr. Laloyer said the audit was conducted last month, with five auditors ensuring Air Vanuatu not only had documented procedures in place but also implemented those procedures according to IOSA standards.
The 2016 result reflects the commitment of management to implement and strictly adhere to a safety first policy.
“The IOSA registration of Air Vanuatu is a significant turning point for the airline and one I committed to achieving on behalf of the shareholders. The effort of our staff is to be commended, as is the support of the Board of Directors and shareholders,” Mr. Laloyer said.
